Jamal Washington

Raised in Fort Washington, Maryland, Jamal is an energetic community builder with a passion for education, immigration reform, and youth development. Jamal received his B.S. in International Business in 2016 from Towson University, where he credits the development of his passion for bridging cultural and equity gaps around the world. Jamal studied abroad in Guatemala during his undergraduate studies and isactively working towards proficiency in Spanish. Jamal has spent the first eight years of his career as a Global Program Management professional. Early in his career, Jamal managed domestic youth fellowships that aimed to expose local underserved youth to international career opportunities after college. He has also administered the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) exchanges on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Currently, Jamal serves as a Youth Exchange Program Officer at World Learning, overseeing inbound and outbound international youth exchanges and special projects. Most near to his heart is his role managing the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP) for Undergraduates, through which he exposes Iraqi students to America to build action plans to strengthen the future of Iraq and U.S. relations. Jamal has also worked on special projects with impactful NGOs such as the Obama Foundation and the Aspen Institute’s Steven’s Initiative. In pursuing a graduate degree in International Affairs, Jamal aspires to deepen his expertise and gain a greater understanding of the many drivers that affect education, youth development, and immigration trends in different regions of the world to affect impactful change on a larger scale. Outside of his professional work, Jamal is a certified personal trainer and enjoys working out and helping individuals achieve their health and fitness goals.
