As an intern with the Congressional Research Service, my summer placement was eye-opening and incredibly educational. I received the opportunity to contribute to memos sent directly to Members of Congress and their staff and to research and draft text for published reports on countries throughout the Middle East and Africa. I learned most about the federal budgeting process and the appropriation of funds to various agencies, lessons that will be invaluable to working as a Foreign Service Officer. I am grateful for the mentorship of the CRS (Congressional Research Service) analysts who taught me new ways of thinking about international relations and international development and who helped me to see new connections and communicate them effectively in my writing.
